Did you try to talk to them, get to know them, understand them and their situation?
NO. You reacted in a knee jerk racist way, and assumed that a group (why do you say gang) of hispanics were violent.
Certainly groups of hispanics crossing the border are not violent, ever.
Why were you uncomfortable being the only white guy around? Do you automatically think minorities want to harm you in some way?
Again, did you approach any of the diverse and wonderfully colorful people from other cultures, try to know them, understand them. Did you even try to talk with any of them?
Shouldn't you have reached out to them as a friend?
