Skeletal muscle mass is controllable. We can make it grow. The more skeletal muscle developed the higher the number of calories burned. Weight lifting increases skeletal muscle mass resulting in greater calories expended during exercise AND while resting.
It is where so many go wrong with dieting and exercise. People grossly underestimate calories consumed and many neglect weight lifting.
Diet has the greatest impact. Jumping on a treadmill or elliptical can help. But weight lifting should not be ignored. It should be done with cardio.
