People cite the rising costs of child care and requirement for both parents to work as being a burden. Also, the inability of some older people to have the funds for retirement. But in many (not all of course) cases, a solution could be found in a multi-generational house hold.

Parents working to provide the bulk of income for the family unit, grandparents providing care for grandkids while the parents are at work.
