Our program was in complete disarray. Pinkel's decision to switch our out-of-state recruiting emphasis from Texas to Alabama, Georgia and Florida was a complete disaster. His last two recruiting classes, taken as a whole, were terrible. And, oh yeah, there was the racial issue that almost tore the team and the campus apart at the seams.
Odom inherited a complete mess. The reason he was probably hired in the first place was because Mack Rhoades couldn't find anyone better to take the job.
Sure, Odom could have taken the Hugh Freeze approach and paid players to come here, hoping against hope that the NCAA wouldn't find out about it. But I have a feeling you wouldn't have liked that either.
