states the electors then cast entirely for the winning candidate.

If you kept it but made electoral votes proportional as Maine does, the system would be better representative.

Founders didn't envision a two party system, if they had they'd have built the electoral college as I'm suggesting rather than leaving it up to states to decide on proportionality.
