allowing our legislators to show how much they care. To show that they are doing something.
They are not necessarily intended to accomplish anything for anyone but themselves and their own careers and reelection.
I get a kick out of the occasional statistic showing how hard Congress is working. The Measure is always… How many laws they passed. As if that is a sign of progress and success.
It’s not easy. It’s hard work to get bipartisan support to pass a law that accomplishes absolutely nothing, but allows legislators to make speeches before an empty senate chamber that shows how much they care. And how much they are doing. And how hard they are working for their constituents back home.
Term limits, please.
