Honest question - is the same excuse used for the KU rivalry? Because watching both rivalry games growing up, the games seemed very important to both teams (players and coaches) in terms of passion and energy, and yet KU has a similar winning record against MU, in terms of win percentage (~65%), as UI does against MU (~67%). I don't think it's MU wants it less necessarily, it's just UI and KU are more so basketball schools, historically, than MU and have won more due to that. Just like MU is more of a football school than UI and easily proved that during the Arch Rivalry games. I don't think MU won more often because "It was their Superbowl" against UI.
