to justify a relocation.
A dream job popped up for me, in San Diego. It's (mostly) a dream job because of the field I'd be in (no longer in insurance, but still working on healthcare related tools) and I'd basically have all the best resources I could want.
They just aren't looking to pay enough. After two interviews with them and running the numbers, the salary they're looking to pay plus benefits, I'd actually be taking a large step back in compensation due to the cost of living (It's 50% more expensive than Minneapolis).
I'd take the job in a heartbeat if I could work from Minnesota. Due to some interesting contracts, they share employees with a firm that has an office here. But I'm pretty sure they won't go for that.
I'm thinking of declining continuing on to the onsite interview to avoid wasting time for both of us.
Full disclosure, I know companies try to get you as low as they can, and put forth ranges that they are actually flexible on. I think this is one of those cases where a company doesn't pay much (relatively speaking).
I apologize for the word vomit on the shack.
