When people post this kind of nonsense, it's shows they are completely unaware that we are in the best conference in College Football, and that puts us in elite company.
Others play a much easier schedule year in and year out, because they have a bunch of bottom feeders. We, as the best conference, are at the top of the food chain. We beat Purdue on their home field. How did Ohio State do against them?
In spite of the fact that voters aren't giving us our due, we are top 20 material right now. Some of the teams ranked ahead of us, like Iowa State, Utah State, Fresno State, and UFC would get crushed in this league. Most of the teams in our league played 6 games against top 30 teams. They might play a few. I saw that one of the computer polls has UFC ranked above Alabama. That is laughable, and it should be tossed as it is in no way legitimate.
8-4 and 4-4 in the SEC in not mediocre. Apart from Tenn-Martin, our non-cons were Purdue, Wyoming, and Memphis. Memphis has a legit shot as conference champs, and we should all root for them to stop UFC this time. We played 9 games against bowl-eligible teams. We won 5 of those 9 games.
We are not mediocre. We had 2 of the most bizarre losses and were 2 FGs from 10-2. I watched the Kentucky game. Their player committed offensive pass interference when he pushed off our guy. Our guy got the flag. Yes, we could have and should have done better, in both games. Since then we smacked top 20 Florida around, and got our first conference shutout in the SEC.
The worst team in our division is top half of college football's top division. We beat them like the proverbial red-headed step child. We are ranked top 30 by everybody. We are consensus #15 according to Massey's composite, and playing at a top 10 level in recent games according to Sagarin.
News flash for the slow learners:
There is more than one league in College Football Bowl Subdivision. There are 10 conferences and 6 independents. We are the best conference, and second best is not even close. Only six teams had a winning record in the SEC. We are tied for 7th with Mississippi State, and South Carolina at 7th (3 way tie, not 2 with SC with tie-breaker. All conference games matter, not just division or head to head). We have the same record as Miss St. and a better record than SC.
Stop saying we are mediocre. That is a lie. We are good, and 8-4 is good if you are in the SEC, the best conference in the land. Is it where we want to be? No. But just because we aren't great doesn't mean we aren't good. Would you rather be Rutgers in the b1g or N.Car in the ACC?
