employee of the university. Obviously schools don't want that because they would be on the hook for injuries even after kids graduate because of workman's comp. If states have entertainer taxes that NBA/NFL/MLB players have to pay, the players would have to handle that too.

You split a pool of money evenly and give players a cut of any jersey sales and bonuses for individual awards that way stars get more money than non-stars. It's not a perfect system but it's far better than not getting paid.
