Was he at the top of the conference on a consistent basis? Nope, but he most certainly was not at the bottom 2 or 3 consistently.

Middle of the road at worse in most years. What we've had in most recent years especially since joining the SEC has been exactly that. What was pointed out is that we will never compete as long as we keep doing the same in this manner. Those first two East championships were the result of high level Big 12 recruiting carrying over, and you've seen what in conference recruiting has done since then.
