Since the managerial change, now the Cards have cut way back on the number of hitters faced by a starter in his third time through the line up. It's helped a lot.
Those are little things a manager can do to change a team. Yes, they've made some player changes and brought in a lot more young pitching for the bullpen, but there has been a lot of changes in approach from both pitching and hitting that are making a difference. Shildt will be the permanent manager even if they don't make the playoffs. Bank it.
