Joe Torre was 351–354 in STL after replacing the White Rat (my favorite). He then went 1,173–767 for the Yankees and as I recall they won a few championships.

I'm fine with firing Matheny, but my bigger concern is the organization more closely resembles what we had in the early 90's.
