After a really good showing in Cali this weekend, returning home for the first time for 6 games in 3 days Friday-Sunday. Weather is supposed to be nice so we should get them all in. Need to keep the momentum going, sitting at 10-7 now, we really should go 6-0 against a home opening schedule made for making some hay.

Drake could be the toughest team. They were 28-27 last year, final RPI rank of 131. This year they are 10-4. They are not a pushover. They have split 1-0 games with Miss State and also have wins over S. Florida and S. Alabama. But have also lost to Fordham, Murray State, and UMKC. Their strength is a deep pitching staff with 3 pitchers sharing the innings pretty evenly. Their pitching stats are amazing, but against some pretty bad teams and offenses overall. Miss State is not an offensive machine. Their team ERA is just 0.98. Their ace is good, Nicole Newman, 5-0 this year, 0.28 ERA, 40 SO to 4 walks. She was the MVC freshman of the year, then MVC POY as a sophomore. Was hurt last year and redshirted. If we can get to her we should be ok, we have played a far tougher schedule than they have.

SE Louisiana was 26-29 last year, final RPI 158. This year they are 9-5, against an overall weak schedule. None of their 9 wins are against anyone. They did lose 4-0 to ranked ULL and 3-2 to Miss State. Other losses are to Omaha, Memphis, and N. Florida. Their pitching is not imposing at all. We should have our way with them on offense.

Creighton was 18-32 last year, final RPI of 212. They are just 7-2 this season, with one weekend getting rained out. Very weak schedule overall, the only decent team they played was Minnesota and they lost 7-3. Their pitching is also not very remarkable.

Past Mizzou teams would have dismissed these three teams and went 6-0 with barely breaking a sweat. Scheduling 6 games for the home opener against teams with RPIs last year of 131, 158, and 212 is supposed to be easy pickings to pad our record. This team is still improving, has to get better defensively and get more timely hitting, and needs several pitchers to just start shutting teams down. So going 6-0 is not a given. But we really need it, because the real season starts a week later against Tennessee.
