For instance, it isn't unreasonable for someone to point out that bad things are likely to happen to someone who likes to hit the bars and drive home several nights a week.
That person could do so for several years and laugh at the "chicken little" who is warning that doing so is a bad idea and could have very bad consequences at some point down the road.
High debt levels should be a warning for people... and for governments as well, though it is true that governments that can issue fiat money at will to pay their debts have a lot more flexibility to rip off the people who loan them the money for their debts.
But even that strategy has its limits and in the long run will produce a lot of problems for people.
