police don't know who was there. He was seen brandishing a rifle out the hotel room window. No one would want to walk up to the door, knock on it, and ask if he had a rifle.. which could shoot through the door and any of the walls. He pretty much swatted himself by being drunk and stupid and handling a firearm which turned out to be an air rifle.
I have no problem with the response. I do have a problem with the officer's often conflicting commands and feel once he had him face down in the hallway they should have moved in to handcuff him and figure out they had nothing. The officer was either scared sh*tless or just couldn't think straight. I've seen officers command someone to raise their shirt and expose their waist and turn around to assess if someone dad a weapon.
