companies are not going to delve significantly into the single family housing market - with or without a mortgage interest deduction (which the GOP is effectively eliminating.)

The mortgage interest deduction was implemented to promote the "American dream" of home ownership - lenders & builders have strong lobbies to continue this "benefit". If the gop tax plan passes, the deduction will pretty much be in name only - the reaction to this elimination will be interesting.
