We know students should be taxed on their waived tuition; its been covered.
The reasonable question that follows is: Where does that line end?
Does it end with veterans? They get tax free healthcare, tax free GI Bills, Tax free disability payouts and grants, tax free endowments and dividends, and a tax free death gratuity.
They also get VA Housing and Small Business loans which give them better rates. Should they be taxed on the difference?
Seems to me this is getting kind of absurd all around. I am not for taxing any of the above and am shocked that some (especially the ones who are anti-tax) want this.
