Haith left Miami, and they got better. The new coach immediately brought in new guys who fit together better and maximized the ability of the talent left behind. Then he sustained it. The problem was made obvious immediately: Haith was holding the team back.

Cal lost Martin, and the result was recruits bailing and returning players not performing. They also hired a first-time head coach, which doesn't help.
