idea. Different teachers bring different skill sets to the table but ultimately they all do the same thing.
In a production facility the engineers have a very different job from the assembly line workers and should be compensated differently.
In a school my skill set as a physics teacher is very different from the Spanish teacher but our jobs are exactly the same. Teach the kids our particular subject.
Also simply getting higher qualified teachers is not the absolute solution many think it is. Yes I think teachers should have a solid understanding of the subjects they teach but that is probably less important than the ability to teach it.
At my first school we had a brilliant engineer on our staff. He was the worst teacher I ever met. He could not bring his material down to the kids, he could not communicate with the kids and he was you stereotypical engineer. At the same time we had another lady that I don't know how she got out of high school little long passed college classes. She barely knew more than the students but she was able to get them engaged and excited and somehow hid the fact that she was dumber than dirt.
