The Swiss Army is essentially a militia and its members take their military weapons, including ammunition, home and store them at home. Guns if anything are more prevalent in Switzerland than in the USA, yet the Swiss have little gun violence. That clearly suggests there are other solutions to the gun violence problem than prohibiting hand guns.

It should be noted that Canada, Sweden and Germany are much more homogenous than the US. They also do not have the disparity in income and wealth.
