Head Coaching Experience. By the end of this year, when we'll make the final determination on who to hire, he would have coached 26 games. He has already gone 9-7 in 16 games and with the current schedule could win Conference USA in his second season. Prior to his arrival, the Roadrunners and gone 3-9 and 4-8 the previous two seasons.
Recruiting. Wilson won national recruiter of the year at LSU. In three separate seasons, he won awards by different publications as the top recruiter in the country. For those who would claim that it's just about recruiting to LSU, he has now secured the top recruiting class in CUSA at UTSA.
Coaching / SEC ties. Wilson is known for his vaunted rushing attacks at LSU. The record speaks for itself.
Not only did he coach at LSU, he also did at Tennessee and Ole Miss as well, having success along the way. Even prior to his extensive college coaching career, he was successful as a high school coach, leading his team to the state title game and also winning coach of the year honors, developing multiple college recruits.
"Frankly", the one concern I have here is whether we'll be in contention for him given where we stack up against other programs that are likely to be looking for coaches. Against other possible options, he's at or near the top and it's going to take a lot of money to get him, particularly if UTSA wins 10+ games.
