they never learn to deal with adversity, or see liars in action, or are marginalized, and keep them in a bubble?
There is no perfect school There is no way to protect your children from the evils of the world. You have to equip them as best as you are able, and trust that they are able to reason through the nonsense.
You send your children to a school to learn how to think, and how to perform certain skills, and to put them under pressure, so that from the coal comes a diamond. And so they learn to think big and stand up for what is right and against wrong, not just for the name of the school on the parchment.
As a parent you try to set the up with local contacts of like minded people who will watch over them and provide the necessary guidance and reassurance they will need as they work their way through these battles. And you keep in regular contact with them, and put up with the strange friends they bring home for the weekend or Thanksgiving.
If you have given them the necessary guidance along the way, they should do okay. But dumping them off at the beginning of freshman year and picking them up at the end of 4 years won't work. You have to have had the conversations about what happens when people go off the reservation, and how to keep out of harms way when things get ugly. You can't wait to start the lessons until they are in the middle of it 100 miles away.
