Unless you're talking about not holding the gun in his hand. He could have easily put a weapon in his waste band. Until the police were able to investigate, it was believed to be an active shooter. By the looks of the video, everybody in the casino thought it was. I think the odd response is to run the opposite way of the crowd, away from the police as soon as you see them, and jump a wall. Those are evasive maneuvers.
To your original point, I doubt he walks back his statement. The NFL is still sticking by him as are sports media outlets.
And he wasn't just lying about being singled out due to his race. He lied about the entire interaction.
