going to be better than most people realize.
24 wins/8 seed is the low-end of my prediction.
I'm predicting a range of 24-30 wins, 2-8 seed in the NCAAT. We'll be considered a dark horse to win the entire thing (as we were in 2009).
That's the "tl;dr" summary. Here's the full version:
We'll have THE two best players in the nation next season: MPJ and Jontay.
"Jontay #2", you ask?.. Yes, especially when he's on the floor with MPJ considering the synergy and chemistry they have when they play together. It essentially creates a 6th man on the floor. They've said many times they "feed off each other's energy" — it will be an incredible tandem to watch. Even without the MPJ synergy, you could argue that Jontay will be a top 5 player individually. He's soaring in the rankings of the 2018 class (from top 40, to top 25, to top 10 now) and very close to the same age as Kevin Knox (only a couple months younger I believe); in fact, I would rather have Jontay than Knox, without question. With the two Porters, we will have the two best players on the court regardless of who the opponent is — including Kentucky.
Blake Harris, a huge addition at the 1, is underrated by most. Blake was a 5-star his sophomore year in HS, then fell to a 4-star following a minor injury and changing schools often. Romar said of Blake: "fastest from baseline to baseline with the ball I have ever seen". He's extremely athletic and has tremendous court vision. Closer to 5-star talent than 4-star. Believe me, there's a reason Tom Izzo wanted him, and MPJ thinks so highly of him.
Kassius Robertson, one of the top rated grad transfers of 2017, is underrated as well and going to light it up from 3. He's regarded as a team-oriented player... that might be one of the reasons he shoots such a high percentage from 3 — he doesn't take selfish, ill-advised shots, and only fires when he's got an open look. He had a great season at Canisius, and he'll be even better this upcoming season especially with all the talent surrounding him and no longer having to carry the team.
Jordan Barnett, Terrence Phillips, and Kevin Puryear will all be solid contributors next season, especially with a real D-1 coaching staff to teach, develop, prepare, and motivate them.
Tilmon and CJ Roberts are the wild cards, IMO. The wide range of my prediction (24-30 wins, 2-8 seed) is largely due to the uncertainty surrounding those two players. Both have the *potential* to be stars, and if that happens then watch out, because the 2017-2018 Missouri Tigers are going to be a legit contender — on the same level as Kentucky, if not better.
