but not all libertarians are minarchists. Hence why I said libertarians in general, to encompass those who are not minarchists.

Of course minarchism can be a waypoint. The joke goes, "what is difference between a minarchist and an anarchist? A few months." The basis of minarchism - and all of libertarianism, including anarchism - is the NAP. Not all minarchists have made the step to recognize or realize the very nature of gvmt. So sure, they believe gvmt should exist solely to protect rights, but I don't see real philosophical disagreement.

I disagree with you on the dramatic shift. I'm pretty much living testament to its being gradual and not dramatic. But everyone is different. For some it may be dramatic, but again the root is libertarianism, so I think that's not very likely
