No doubt dems would have cried about his firing as soon as the investigation started. And I dont think anyone thinks he was doing a bang-up job.

But the timing and its handling, as hokie has said, are at the heart of the issue. The WH has given a bunch of reasons why he was fired, each of them are easily refutable based on Trump tweets, actions, or statements.
