I remember when Sports Center was awesome. Just flat out awesome. It was like 80-90% highlights with funny narration. And I think it was 30 minutes.

To me, highlights are entertaining. 30 minutes of mostly highlights was a very dense show. As I recall, they'd show the highlights, then maybe half of a box score, then move to the next game.

To me, this makes for a more entertaining show than an hour of 15% highlights and 85% sports "news", complete with talking heads giving their opinion on what Nick Saban is going to have for lunch on Thursday and what the NFL may do in order to punish some running back out of Chicago for getting a speeding ticket.

Sports Center was a beautiful crystallization of what is great about sports: world-class athletes doing amazing things.

Now, it's 60 minutes of news about sports.

The thing is, it's cheaper to make the old version, AND it's better.
