We flat out weren't ready to play last night. That's not from me - the players admitted it. Read the story in the Tribune. Quotes about the team not having moved on yet from the awful loss to SC last week. Not being ready to play last night. Getting out worked and out hustled. Hey, I have no problem with this team getting out-talented. There are a number of teams that just have more talent than us. But not being ready to play and getting outworked is 100% on the coaches and team.

Yeah, I'm happy we hung on and won a tough match, at home, against a powerhouse Auburn team with an RPI rank of #121. Sarcasm intended.

I dont think it's a good thing that we are playing our worst of the season at the most crucial time of the season. Maybe we can just keep playing down or up to the competition based on who we are playing. It's the inconsistency now that bothers me. Playing down to the competition. Not being focused at the most critical time of the year. Maybe we will come out and play great against Florida. Who knows at this point.

Here is the problem with our RPI rank. The last 4 matches of the season with opponents RPI:

Florida 5
Tennessee 107
Auburn 121
Georgia 169

Florida obviously helps, win or lose, hopefully win. But the other 3 are dogs in terms of the RPI, and will drag is down. Just by playing them. That's the problem playing VB is the overall weak SEC.

This season to me, like softball, is all about positioning yourself for the deepest run in the NCAA tournament as possible, by getting the highest seed possible and the best draw. Yeah, conference championships are nice too. And I'm afraid in the last week this very talented Mizzou team has done great damage to our seeding which may not be undone even by upsetting Florida tomorrow. We had one shot at a national top 16 seed and a home regional. That was winning out after the huge road win at Kentucky, which left us at #21 in the poll and #12 in the RPI, winning the SEC outright, driving our RPI up to at least #10, and our poll rank to at least #16. Even then we might have just barely gotten a seed in the 14-16 range. But we would have had a home regional.

That's gone now I'm afraid, after the awful loss to SC. Alabama just went there and thrashed SC 3-0. Just like Florida and TAMU did. Still hard to believe we lost to them 3-1. I don't see any way now, even with a huge upset of Florida, to get our RPI up to around 10, and our polling up to around 16. We are almost a lock now to be on the road at Kansas. Hope I'm wrong.
