I went last night and had a great time. Let's face it, a 7:00 p.m. start on a Sunday sucks. Add in a no-name team, and I wasn't shocked by the attendance. I think the released attendance number was pretty close. When you spread out 3900 people in Mizzou Arena, it looks empty.
I know it is difficult for people to hit the reset button on Kim Anderson and his tenure as coach. However, I don't think I am the only one who sees what he is doing. Coaches need players to buy into a program. See Demontie Cross and Barry Odom and their difficulties with the defense this year.
If you focus on the players we now have, it isn't difficult to get excited. Despite limitations, Terrence Phillips is a great representative of the University of Missouri. The Missouri guys, Puryear and Van Leer, want to lead Missouri back into basketball relevance. The freshmen, led by Hughes and Jackson, already show a better understanding of team basketball than people who left or were dismissed from the program. And I'm not basing that on just last night's game. The Black and Gold game and reports from the trip to Italy give evidence of that as well.
I'm excited and hope that more and more people give this group a chance.
Go Tigers!
