Was really impressed with Hughes and Nikko!
Hughes is a bigger longer better athlete then I thought.
Can shoot from long range and mid range as well. Nikko very good touch and appears good defensively. Big long player just has to get in shape off his surgery.
Geist looks like he can contribute Jackson looks very good as I hoped! He had 8 and 8.
Really the freshman showed up and the returners did not, which is the same thing that happened last year. That is not a good sign new players coming in being better then the older guys who KA has coached. 2nd year in a row that has happened. Only 1 game though so, usually the good and the bad evens out.
Woods got in to foul trouble again. If Woods does not improve a lot then I would be in favor of letting Nikko or even Smith getting more playing time because they might be our future big men. When Barnett is eligible we might play more small ball. Woods is our most physical big man though
Walton was apparently sick so he didn't do much.
Puryear struggled from the field.
Phillips was solid and is the leader of this team even when is not playing great
Vanleer was ok nothing great but led the team in mins.. I hope that was just a by product of Walton being sick and only playing 13 mins. That is going to drive me nuts if KA keeps playing Van leer that much. I think Walton and Hughes are better players and need more PT the Van leer. Only time he should get a lot of PT is if he comes in and is hot from 3 then you leave in
All in all it was a close game we didn't play good D offense was bad in the first but better in the 2nd. We should beat this team by 20 but it's early still so you just learn and HOPEFULLY get better!
New players look like they can add a lot to the team and I have confidence that Walton , Phillips and Puryear will be solid players this year. Once Barnett gets in the line up this team will be better.
