returning team, that publicly declared they weren't even going to play a game unless the university president resigned, to be a winning team in one year's time?

Hint: they will NEVER be a winning team. If the situation would be handled like any other functioning enterprise, everyone of these entitled losers would have been immediately cut and their scholarships revoked, and we could have started a rebuild this season.

Instead, we're just going to have to wait out these morons as they continue to do what they've always demonstrated they are capable of doing: losing and being undisciplined.
