Kul did not get along, since Kul was pi$$ed that Odom got the DC job instead of him. The two never would have co-existed well as boss and subordinate, so it was probably better for both parties if they parted ways.
I also wonder if there wasn't some friction within the coaching staff from the D line (D Line Zou) getting so much notoriety, even though the D line was only part of the equation. Obviously, Kentrell Brothers was our most valuable defensive player last year, but the D line was all that everyone ever talked about.
