It's not that just that they're small, it's that instead of four, they're playing only 3 d-linemen, essentially subbing one out in favor of a nickel back. Though I've heard they're fudging on their d-linemen weights. You can't compare college athletes to fast freaks in the NFL playing in a 3-4 defense where linebackers are speedy and play at 240-260. Besides, WVU isn't playing a 3-4, they're playing a 3-3-5, geared to stopping a passing attack.
WVU's 3 linebackers linebackers are all new starters, and though they're upperclassmen, they only weigh 215, 235 and 218. What that essentially means is that they're geared to covering receivers, not a power running game where they get leaned on all game.
If we can get any kind of push with our line, we will win this game with an emphasis on the run. And I'd love for their safeties to cheat up to stop the run. That will create 1 on 1 matchups with our receivers.
All in all, I think we have the advantage here playing an average defense from last year, geared to primarily stop the pass, that has also lost a lot of starters.
