Population footprint is declining in importance

A school's population footprint is significant in that population is a proxy for the number of cable tv subscribers. As cable tv loses subscribers, i.e. ESPN has lost subscribers for the past three years, as viewers ;move to alternative means of viewing and as the "cable tv bundle" model comes under attach; the population footprint of a school becomes less important and the number of viewers through streaming, etc. becomes more important.
And before you try to read something into my post, I am not arguing that East Carolina should be admitted to the Big XII. Only that population footprint is not as important a factor in expansion calculations as it was just a few years ago.
