will determine the Tigers' record this season. The extent of each of these will be revealed as the season progresses.

Hopefully, every returning player will show at least normal year to year improvement. Frankly, the Tigers may need more than that in some instances to have a successful season, i.e. Luck at QB, the WR's, the returning OL, etc. I would include the contributions this year by kids who were in the program last year, but didn't play, in this category.

Contributions by new players, i.e. the recruits who weren't on the team last fall, are also obviously a key. Will Ross be a big time running back, can Black upgrade the WR corps, will Bellemy (sp) solidify left tackle.

Finally, attrition, primarily but not solely through injuries, will be critical. The 2012 and 2015 seasons clearly demonstrated the Tiger talent pool is neither deep enough nor broad enough to withstand a lot of attrition. In 2012 the attrition was in the OL and at QB. The result was a 2-6 SEC record. In 2015, it was primarily Mauk's suspensions coupled with the inability to replace a number of departed offensive performers with players of equal ability (i.e. Murphy, Morse, Sasser, et al.). The result was a 1-7 SEC record.

Anyone and everyone who makes a prediction about the upcoming season is making implicit and explicit assumptions about what will happen in each of these areas. And those assumptions, i.e. the one's each of you are making, determines your outlook for the coming year. Given the closed nature of fall practice, only the coaching staff has any real inkling of ow valid some of the assumptions are going to be. Everyone else is just guessing.
