and the article is a bit dated.

It's true that Glass-Steagall wouldn't prevented all of the issues. But repealing did help open the floodgates, and Bush left the regulation of the mortgage industry to the Fed, SEC and the OTS....all of which had a really bad track record of regulation, and it got worse under Bush.
