the regression toward the mean would suggest that NU would have maintained a 14-10 win advantage during that period, but Mizzou shot itself in the foot so much with so many events that have been discussed quite often here, that it failed miserably in maintaining that ratio.
And luck had quite a bit to do with it too. NU won three games from 79, 80,82, I believe, 23-20, 6-0, 23-19...there was the fleakicker game and others. Those could easily have gone the other way, especially the 23-19 game in Lincoln. Mizzou was near the 40, maybe, and ran a fake sweep one way, a fake wheel route the other way, the fullback chip blocked then broke into the secondary, wide open 10 yards ahead of anyone from the second level before the defense realized what was happening. And dropped the f'ing pass, all alone on his way to the end zone unmolested. Difference in the game.
