Hillary also needs the supers to get nominated. She can't get there on pledged delegates alone.
You're right that someone else could step in and try to steal the nomination. If that were to occur, there would certainly be a donnybrook coming. You think the Bernie voters are mad now, just think how the poop would hit the fan if Biden entered the race at the convention.
