private firms pay for the marketing, the physical product ect that is being sold.

There is a huge misconception about 'how things come to be', and that misconception includes people having no clue about how much taxpayers invest in the 'birth' of anything new.

In capitalism the initial investor would be rewarded, not in this case, as the taxpayer gets no financial benefit.
