Lou Holtz thinks immigrants are invading the United States (Getty).
Lou Holtz let his feelings on immigration be known to a luncheon at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday
The former Notre Dame and South Carolina coach and former ESPN analyst told the crowd at the Republican National Coalition for Life luncheon that he doesn’t want to celebrate immigrants’ holidays or speak their language, rather that they should “become us.” From the Daily Beast:
“I don’t want to become you,” he continued. “I don’t want to speak your language, I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team!”
He said he felt the number of immigrants into the United States was an “invasion” according to the report.
We feel compelled to note the irony of comments devaluing others’ lives while at a luncheon of a “coalition for life.” That irony would probably be lost on Holtz. Wonder what he thought of the “Fighting Irish” nickname while at Notre Dame (a school with a French name)?
Holtz was in attendance at the convention Monday night and had his photo taken with a bottle of Crown Royal. In case you were wondering, Crown Royal is made in Canada.
