I think the issue has more to do with the "too big to fail" aspect and the risk of massive bailouts

Sure there are smaller, regional banks to choose consumer services from, but the size of these semi monopolies is scary. Not to mention their influence over the economy and govt.

I'd like to see the Big Boyz broken into smaller pieces over time, but will defer to the legal, financial and economic minds as to what structures work best and with less risk.
