He's been saying that the Russian strategy is to degrade/destroy the Ukrainian military until they are no longer a threat to Russia.
At that point they will take whatever land is necessary to get Ukraine to agree to a peace agreement amenable to Russia.
Urkraine has a far smaller population and military than Russia and Russia has been taking their time to reduce their own casualties to a minimum relative to those of the Ukraine military.
I've heard varying estimates, but it sounds like Ukraine has been losing anywhere from 7 to 1 losses up to double that.
It is just a matter of time. They're already drafting 16 to 60 year olds and throwing them into the meatgrinder with little to no training.
