Samll neigborhood restaurants, grocery stores, neighborhood elementary and middle schools, neighborhood churches... and yes.. even neighborhood bars.
With the advent of cars, those neighberhood establishments were absorbed by larger (more economical?) facilities that could serve more customers/patrons.
In the cities, those establishments STILL exist except in the ghettos/barrios where high crime and low enforcement of laws have driven those bisunesses out and they are replaced by liquor stores, tatto parlors, pawn shops and the occaisional fast food joint.
The "15 minute neighborhood" propanents forget why the ghetto/barrio doesn't have that 'neigborhood closeness' economy.... they want to import the criminals to the good neighborhoods and watch those places descend into ghost towns of high crime and declining property values.
