If you are looking at 2024 GDP numbers. If you look at per capita GDP, they are not even the largest state. In fact, they are 5th.

If you take out payments to individuals for Social Security and Veteran's benefits (which are just a factor of populations size), CA is very much in the tax user category.

ALL, and I man ALL statistics like this can be manipulated to say whatever you want to say.
