They backfired, brought severe hardship on European nations and contributed significantly to the establishment of BRICS as a bulwark against Western economic hegemony. With the addition of China, India and Brazil into this geopolitical group the supremacy of the dollar as the world's reserve currency was brought to an end. In addition to the economic disaster the Russians have begun deployment of medium and short range nuclear missiles in Belarus and their western oblasts. Develpoment of nuclear reactor powered missiles has been announced. Subsequently, Trump has few cards left to play and will be dealing from a weak deck. If Trump can come out of this meeting with a nuclear missile limitation agreement in exchange for a return to some semblance of normal relations, it would be a very good thing. Both biden and Trump tried brinkmanship, sanctions and threats and they haven't worked.
