Luckily after all that, they were able to get insurance to cover it.
My kid got pretty sick over the last 9 months or so and was in and out of the hospital and seeing doctors. Every other year I've worked for my company, the insurance year ran from May 1st to April 30th. Well in 2024, they decided to only have the insurance run May through December and reset in January. So we hit our out of pocket maximum for 2024 and then hit it again for 2025 by February. Every other year prior to 2024, the medical expenses would have fell on a single plan year. But it just so happened that the year they decided to get on a calendar year schedule for insurance was the year where we had our most medical expenses. Nothing like $12k in medical expenses over the last 9 months..
