I am sure there would have been some pushback over the years. I've never seen or heard of a school just ignoring an NCAA ruling on bowl bans.

I am sure if the NCAA rules Michigan out of the playoffs, the CFP committee isn't going to say screw them, we're putting them in the playoffs anyway.
