These pronouncements are very disappointing, and sound more reactionary than sound Catholic teaching.
There is always a spectrum of liberal and conservative bishops. The latter tend to get elected to the USCCB (which non-Catholics are usually surprised to learn has no ecclesial authority, even though they act like it). With that in mind, the incindiary statements by Archbishop Weinski of Miami is eye-opening. He is known to be fairly solid on the conservative side. He should know better. Gomez of LA? Screw him.
