I give no credit to a soundtrack like Forrest Gump or Dazed & Confused. They just grabbed a bunch of hit songs to use from prior decades.

A soundtrack like Singles or The Crow is much more impressive. Songs used in those movies for the first time.

Maybe a few of those songs already existed, but they weren't hits. They were B-sides or tracks buried on an album with other hits.
